GUA MUSANG: Two men were killed in an accident after their SUV turned around before a police check, collided with another vehicle and crashed into a lamp post on the Gua Musang-Kuala Lipis road in Bukit Lanjut.
Gua Musang OCPD Supt Sik Choon Foo said a report on the crash was received at 10.24am on Thursday (Aug 27).
He said police were conducting spot checks at KM16 of the road when they spotted a suspicious-seeming SUV, which then turned back towards town.
"OUr men then followed the vehicle to carry out an inspection.
"The SUV is believed to have lost control, veered into the opposite lane and collided with the rear of a pickup truck before going off the road and crashing into a lamp post," he said in a statement.
Supt Sik said one man in the SUV died at the scene, while the other died while receiving treatment at Hospital Gua Musang.
Their bodies were then taken to the hospital’s forensic unit for a post-mortem.
He said several other occupants of the SUV were injured and taken to the same hospital for treatment, while the police team and driver of the pickup were unhurt.
"Further investigations are underway to identify those involved and establish the full circumstances of the incident," he said.
The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving. – Bernama
