PETALING JAYA: Twenty areas recorded unhealthy Air Pollutant Index (API) readings as of 10am on Friday (Aug 28) with one area recording a "Good" reading, according to the Air Pollutant Index Management System (APIMS).
In Sarawak, five areas breached the unhealthy threshold, with Sri Aman recording the highest reading in the state and nationwide at 197, followed by IPD Serian (175), Sarikei (154), Kuching (142) and Miri (129).
Outside Sarawak, 15 areas also recorded unhealthy readings. Cheras in WP Kuala Lumpur recorded 159, followed by Seberang Perai in Pulau Pinang (158), Minden in Pulau Pinang (157) and Taiping in Perak (155).
Seberang Jaya in Pulau Pinang (153), Johan Setia in Selangor (153), Sungai Petani in Kedah (152), Batu Muda in WP Kuala Lumpur (152) and Shah Alam in Selangor (152) also recorded unhealthy readings, along with Putrajaya (147), Tasek Ipoh in Perak (138), Petaling Jaya in Selangor (126), Alor Setar in Kedah (111), Seremban in Negeri Sembilan (107) and Seri Manjung in Perak (102).
Meanwhile, 46 areas around the country recorded API readings at the moderate level, while one area recorded a good reading. Jerantut in Pahang recorded 37, the only station to record good air quality.
API readings of between zero and 50 indicate good air quality, 51 to 100 moderate, 101 to 200 unhealthy, 201 to 300 very unhealthy, while readings above 300 are categorised as hazardous.
API data is released hourly based on readings from 68 air quality monitoring stations nationwide.
