JOHOR BARU: A 22-year-old woman was killed after being hit by a lorry while cycling at a factory here.
Seri Alam OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Sohaimi Ishak said the incident happened at about 4.50 pm on Friday within the compound of a soap-processing factory at Jalan Nibong 4 in Pasir Gudang.
“The victim was cycling along the side of the factory area towards the safety zone when a 36-year-old male lorry driver, who did not notice her in his blind spot, hit her while manoeuvring into the loading bay.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene after suffering severe injuries,” he said in a statement.
He added that the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 and urged witnesses with information to contact the police at 07-3864222 to assist in the investigation.
Meanwhile, in a separate incident the same day, ACP Mohd Sohaimi said police are searching for a motorcyclist believed to have been involved in an accident that claimed the life of an elderly man.
The accident occurred at about 1.20 pm on Friday (Aug 29) when the 66-year-old victim was driving from his workplace at Jalan Platinum 4 towards Jalan Platinum to buy food at a nearby stall.
“Upon reaching the scene, the victim attempted a U-turn and crashed into a motorcycle that was travelling straight.
The impact caused the motorcyclist to fall onto the road,” he said.
He said the motorcyclist then got up and fled the scene, abandoning his motorcycle.
“As the victim was getting out of his car to check on the situation, he collapsed and lost consciousness before being pronounced dead at the scene.
The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987,” he added.
ACP Mohd Sohaimi urged anyone with information on the motorcyclist to contact investigating officer Insp Wan Siti Norlia Ahmad at 013-6716594, and reminded road users to comply with traffic laws and stay alert while driving.
“In the event of an accident involving injury or damage, motorists must stop, assist the victims and lodge a police report at the nearest station within 24 hours,” he said.
