IPOH: The remains of an unknown individual, believed to have died after being run over by a train, were found near a temple in Chemor.
Ipoh OCPD Asst Comm Abang Zainal Abidin Abang Ahmad said a search was conducted near the railway tracks located behind the temple after receiving information from Keretapi Tanah Melayu Bhd (KTMB) about the incident on Monday (Aug 25).
"The incident is believed to have occurred at about 6am when the train was on its way North.
"The driver of the train had heard a loud crashing sound at the front of the vehicle but was unable to determine what the train had hit as it was dark and foggy," he said in a statement on Tuesday (Aug 26).
"A subsequent check at the location found human remains and some personal belongings believed to be of the victim's.
"The police's forensics unit and K9 units, as well as the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital's pathology team have conducted a check in the area and found several pieces of human remains," he said, adding that the remains were sent to the hospital's forensics unit for post mortem on Tuesday (Aug 26).
ACP Abang Zainal Abidin said the case was currently classified as a Sudden Death Report, with initial investigations showing found no signs of foul play.
"The police are urging those who are missing a family member to come forward and contact investigating officer Sjn Mohd Safrizal Mohd Saad at 017-344 6790, the Chemor police or Ipoh police headquarters for identification purposes," he said.
"We also advise the people not to speculate on the matter and to allow the police to complete its investigation," he added.
