A DANCE academy in Perak is providing free traditional dance lessons to Tamil school students.

Shining Starz Dance Academy founder and chief executive officer Ugaantarun Sugumar said the academy, was established to promote Indian and Tamil cultural dances, Makkal Osai reported.

With support from the district education department, classes are held every Wednesday at the Sri Thandayuthabani Temple.

Students learn dances such as Karagattam, Maanaattam, Mayilaattam, among others.

Ugaantarun said these dances, once a staple of temple festivals and social gatherings, need to be preserved for future generations.

> A man in India has gone viral after carrying his motorcycle across a railway crossing rather than wait for a passing train, the daily also reported.

Videos showed the unidentified man hoisting his Hero bike, which can weigh up to 135kg, onto his shoulders before walking through traffic and crossing the tracks.

He had reportedly been caught in a jam after the gates were closed but decided not to wait.

The stunt drew mixed reactions, with some marvelling at his strength while others criticised his act as possibly inspiring copycats, which can put others at risk.
