Event in Bukit Bintang a raving success, says Tourism Minister

PETALING JAYA: Tens of thousands of people gathered at Bukit Bintang on Thursday (April 30) night to usher in Labour Day.

Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Sri Tiong King Sing said the athmosphere at the "World Workers' Day Celebration: Rain Rave Water Music Festival 2026" was lively.

"The presence of local visitors and tourists from various countries made the atmosphere dense, lively, vibrant and energetic," he said in an Instagram post on Friday (May 1), adding that over 50,000 people crowded the streets that night.

He said the festive atmosphere was enlivened with splashing water, cheering and dancing.

"I went up to the stage and ended up getting soaked. Everyone really enjoyed the fun in the lively atmosphere," he said.

Tiong said it despite the massive crowd the everyone remained calm and showed respect for each other.

He said the revelry was temporary halted for the call to prayer, which reflected sensitivities to the cultural and religious diversity in Malaysia.

This, he said, was the foundation to the country's harmony.

"This is the spirit we want to bring through Visit Malaysia 2026, not just to attract more tourists but to provide an opportunity for everyone to share the experience of Malaysia's uniqueness.

"When everyone can enjoy and experience this together, that is meaningful enough to me," he said.
