Boy, 13, drowns while swimming in pond in Miri


MIRI: A 13-year-old boy has been found drowned after going missing while swimming with seven friends in a pond in Kuah Kiri, Lorong Desa Senadin, Miri on Friday (May 1) morning.

The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department operations centre said Jackson Mara was found at the bottom of the pond at a depth of almost 3m at 12.15pm.

"Firefighters brought the body to the surface and conducted cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) but he was prounonced dead by medical officers at the location," the centre said in a statement.

The authorities received a distress call at 11.04am and an eight-man team was sent from the Lutong fire station, some 10km from the scene.

The team was informed that the boy had gone missing while swimming with seven of his friends, who were all safe.

It then began search and rescue operations.

The centre added that the victim’s body was handed over to the police for further action. – Bernama
