Johor dengue cases see decline in Epidemiological Week 33


JOHOR BARU: Cumulative dengue cases in Johor declined to 4,231 in epidemiological week 33 this year compared with the same week in 2024.

State health and environment committee chairman Ling Tian Soon said this represents a 57.9% drop from 10,044 cases recorded in the corresponding period last year.

He said of the 4,231 cases, 1,333 cases (31.5%) were epidemic locality cases, while 2,898 cases (68.5%) were non‑locality cases.

“The cumulative death cases were eight in Epi Week 33, 2025, against 15 recorded in Epi Week 33 last year,” Ling said.

He said Johor Baru district has the highest number of cases with 67 (673.6%), followed by Batu Pahat with seven (7.7%), Kulai with six (6.6%), and Tangkak with three (3.3%).

Ling added that Pontian, Kota Tinggi, Muar, and Segamat recorded two cases each, or 2.2% respectively.

“There were no cases reported in Kluang and Mersing,” he said.

Ling said there are seven dengue hotspots in Johor Baru, namely Bandar, Jelutong, Plentong, Pulai, Sungai Tiram, Tebrau, and Tanjung Kupang in Gelang Patah.

He said Batu Pahat has 14 hotspots, namely Bagan, Chaah Baru, Kampung Bahru, Linau, Lubok, Minyak Beku, Peserai, Simpang Kanan, Simpang Kiri, Sri Gading, Sri Medan, Sungai Kluang, Sungai Punggor, and Tanjung Semberong.
