Dengue cases in Johor drops 21.2% in Epi Week 09/2026


JOHOR BARU: The number of cumulative dengue cases recorded in Johor had declined for the epidemiological week 09/2026 (Epi Week).

State health and environment chairman Ling Ting Han said there were 928 cases in Epi Week 09/2026. against 1,178 cases in Epi Week 09/2025.

He said this represented a drop of 21.2% with 311 (33.5%) were locality cases while 617 cases (66.5%) were non-locality cases.

In the context of infectious disease epidemiology, for a vector-borne illness like dengue, the terms locality cases and non-locality cases (often referred to as locally acquired cases and travel-associated or imported cases) refer to where the infection was contracted.

“There was one death for Epi Week 09/2026, compared with two deaths for the corresponding period last year,’’ Ling said in a statement.

He said Johor Baru district has the highest number of cases with 53 (71.6%), Kulai with seven cases (9.5%), and Kluang and Pontian with three cases each (4.1%) respectively.

Ling said Batu Pahat, Kota Tinggi, Muar and Segamat, each have two cases (2.7%) respectively.

“There were no cases reported in Mersing and Tangkak," he added.

He said Kluang’s eight hotspots were Kahang, Kluang, Layang-Layang, Machap, Nyior, Paloh, Renggam and Ulu Benut.

Ling said the 10 hotspots in Pontian were Air Masin, Api-Api, Ayer Baloi, Benut, Jeram Batu/Parit Raja, Pontian, Rimba Terjun, Serkat, Sungai Karang and Sungai Pinggan.
