PHNOM PENH: As dengue fever cases continue to rise, a Ministry of Health team monitoring progress in dengue management across Cambodia’s capital and provinces has launched training courses on the diagnosis and treatment of the disease.
An Aug 24 ministry statement explained that the training was held in cooperation with Phnom Penh’s Cambodia Kantha Bopha Foundation and Siem Reap’s Jayavarman VII Hospital.
The main objective of the training was to update medical knowledge, share experience and technical expertise, and introduce the latest treatment measures to ensure faster and more accurate diagnosis and effective treatment of dengue fever in Koh Kong and Pursat provinces.
Leaders and specialists in dengue treatment advised participants to pay close attention to the training in order to strengthen their professional capacity.
They are expected to become focal trainers at their respective workplaces and share their knowledge with fellow doctors and nurses.
Health officials also inspected dengue patient care and treatment at provincial hospitals and district referral hospitals in the two provinces to assess the management and classification of patients.
The inspections focused on ensuring that patients were appropriately categorised and managed, allowing for effective, high-quality, safe treatment and monitoring.
Officials also reviewed procedures for the timely and safe referral of patients requiring a higher level of care.
Public health education was also promoted to encourage people to eliminate mosquito breeding sites, as mosquitoes are the vectors that transmit dengue fever.
According to the Kantha Bopha Foundation, Kantha Bopha hospitals treated 4,475 children with dengue fever during the first six months of 2026. - The Phnom Penh Post/ANN
