JOHOR BARU: Johor recorded a sharp decline in cumulative dengue cases for epidemiological week 49 (Epi Week 49) this year compared with the same period in 2024.
State health and environment committee chairman Ling Tian Soon said 5,634 cases were reported this year, down from 12,746 cases in 2024.
“This represents a 56.8% reduction. Of the total cases, 1,711 cases (30.37%) were non-locality infections, while 3,923 cases or 69.6% were from epidemic localities,” he said in a statement on Monday (Dec 8).
Ling added that no deaths were recorded for Epi Week 49 this year, with cumulative deaths for 2025 remaining at 11, compared with 20 deaths recorded during the same period last year.
“This reflects a 45% decline in dengue-related deaths,” he said.
He said Johor Baru recorded the highest number of cases with 76 cases (63.3%), followed by Kulai with 17 cases (14.2%) and Kluang with nine cases (7.5%).
Batu Pahat recorded six cases (5%), Segamat five cases (4.2%), Muar three cases (2.5%), while Tangkak and Pontian each recorded two cases (1.7%).
“No cases were reported in Kota Tinggi and Mersing,” he said.
Ling said seven dengue hotspots were identified in Johor Baru, namely Bandar, Jelutong, Plentong, Pulai, Sungai Tiram, Tebrau and Tanjung Kupang in Gelang Patah.
“The four hotspots in Kulai are Bukit Batu, Kulai, Sedenak and Senai,” he added.
He said eight hotspots were detected in Kluang, namely Kahang, Kluang, Layang-Layang, Macap, Nyior, Paloh, Rengam and Ulu Benut.
