Johor records 17.2% drop in dengue cases in Epi Week 7


JOHOR BARU: Johor recorded a decline in cumulative dengue cases for the epidemiological week 7 (Epi Week 7/2026) compared with the corresponding period last year.

State health and environment committee chairman Ling Tian Soon said there were 770 cases for Epi Week 7/2026 against 930 cases for Epi Week 7/2025.

“This represents a 17.2% drop, with 254 cases (33%) being non-locality cases and 67% or 516 epidemic locality cases,’’ he said in a statement.

No death was reported for Epi Week 7/2026 in the state compared with two fatalities registered for Epi Week 7/2025.

“This represents a 200% decline in the number of deaths due to dengue this year,” he said.

The Johor Baru district recorded the highest number of cases with 57 (75%), followed by Kulai (nine cases, 11.8%) and Batu Pahat with four cases (5.3%).

Meanwhile, three cases (3.9%) were reported in Kota Tinggi, while Kluang, Pontian and Tangkak each recorded one case respectively (1.3%).

No cases were reported in Muar, Segamat and Mersing.

Ling said Johor Baru has seven dengue hotspots, namely Bandar, Jelutong, Plentong, Pulai, Sungai Tiram, Tebrau and Tanjung Kupang in Gelang Patah.

“The four hotspots in Kulai were Bukit Batu, Kulai, Sedenak and Senai,” he added.

Ling said the 14 hotspots in Batu Pahat were Bagan, Chaah Baru, Kampung Bahru, Linau, Lubok, Minyak Beku, Peserai, Simpang Kanan, Simpang Kiri, Sri Gading, Sri Medan, Sungai Kluang, Sungai Punggor and Tanjung Sembrong.
