China man pleads not guilty to kidnapping charge in Kedah

ALOR SETAR: A Chinese national pleaded not guilty in the Sessions Court here to a charge of kidnapping a 33-year-old female compatriot last month.

Wang Hao, 27, entered the plea after the charge was read out to him in Mandarin before Judge Mazdi Abdul Hamid on Thursday (Sept 10).

According to the charge, Wang and four other individuals still at large allegedly kidnapped Xiong Xi Qiao with the intention of secretly and wrongfully confining her at Taman Amira, Langgar, here, at about 8.40pm on Aug 7.

The charge was framed under Section 365 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 34 of the same Code, which provides for a maximum jail term of seven years and a fine upon conviction.

Deputy public prosecutors Muhammad Fahmi Kamaluddin and Nasruna Anhar Nordien did not offer bail as the offence is non-bailable.

However, lawyer Mohd Shakir Esrati, representing Wang, applied for bail with two sureties, saying the accused's passport was currently in the possession of the investigating officer.

Judge Mazdi denied the bail application and set Oct 11 for mention and submission of documents. – Bernama
