KOTA KINABALU: Four people were killed following a car crash at KM7 of the Telupid-Beluran road some 200km from here on Wednesday (Sep 9).
Beluran OCPD Supt Hasan Majid said the accident was believed to be caused by the 63-year-old driver, who lost control of his vehicle prior to the 6.30am incident.
He said the driver, who was travelling with three foreigners in the car, was from Beluran and headed towards Telupid town.
“When he reached a corner in the area, he was believed to have lost control and swerved into the opposite lane before crashing into an oncoming lorry, driven by a 44-year-old man,” he said in a statement.
Supt Hasan said the four in the car sustained severe injuries after they were pinned inside the wrecked car and were pronounced dead at the scene by medical officials on site.
The lorry driver, he said, sustained injuries to his arms and legs and is receiving treatment.
He said the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless driving, and urged witnesses or anyone with a recording of the accident to come forward and assist the probe.
