MOHE allows online classes for Hindu students, lecturers over Deepavali

PETALING JAYA: Hindu students and lecturers at public higher education institutions will be allowed to conduct and attend teaching and learning sessions online or in hybrid mode from Nov 5 to 13 in conjunction with Deepavali.

The Higher Education Ministry (MOHE) said the flexibility would apply to public universities, polytechnics and community colleges nationwide ahead of the festival, which falls on Sunday (Nov 8).

“However, the implementation will depend on the suitability and academic programme requirements of each institution to ensure that the overall academic schedule is not disrupted.

“This initiative reflects MOHE's concern for the welfare of the higher education community while recognising the cultural and religious diversity that forms the foundation of harmony in Malaysia's multiracial society,” the ministry said in a statement on Friday (Oct 30).
