PETALING JAYA: An elderly woman was injured after she tried to re-enter her burning home to retrieve important belongings after returning from a temple in Kampung Bukit Chandang, Batang Kali on Thursday (Sept 10).
The woman in her 80s, who lives alone, suffered burns to about 5% of her left shoulder after she was caught in the heat from the fire.
Selangor Fire and Rescue Department assistant director of operations Ashrul Riezal Asbar said the woman had gone to a temple earlier in the morning and realised that her house was on fire when she returned.
“She tried to enter the house to retrieve some important belongings but was unable to do so because of the intense heat from the fire.
“She sustained burns to her left shoulder and was given assistance,” he said.
Ashrul Riezal said the woman has five children, but none of them lives with her.
He said the department received a distress call at 9.27am.
“Firefighters from the Kuala Kubu Baru Fire and Rescue Station arrived at the scene at 9.40am, followed by personnel from the Bukit Sentosa station.
“The fire involved two detached houses. The first house, a Class B structure measuring 40ft by 50ft, was about 80% damaged, while the second house, a Class A structure measuring 60ft by 70ft, suffered about 3% damage,” he said.
A total of 10 firefighters were involved in the operation, using a Fire Rescue Tender and a Light Fire Rescue Tender.
The fire was brought under control at 9.58am.
The cause of the fire and total losses are still being investigated.
