Haze seen in several west coast states


PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) reports that cross-border haze is impacting several west coast states in Peninsular Malaysia.

Department director-general Dr Mohd Hisham Mohd Anip stated that 79 hotspots have been identified in Sumatra, Indonesia, coupled with winds blowing from the southwest, potentially leading to the hazy conditions.

The hotspots were detected based on findings from the Asean Specialized Meteorological Centre (ASMC).

"MetMalaysia also does not expect any rains or changes in wind conditions that can reduce the effects of the haze in the coming days," Dr Mohd Hisham said in a statement on Saturday (July 19).

He advised the public to refrain from any open burning activities, as they can exacerbate the haze and contribute to pollution.
