Human Resources Ministry launches Smart Classroom pilot

KULAI: The Human Resources Ministry has launched a Smart Classroom Proof-of-Concept to modernise teaching and learning, involving six campuses under its Manpower Department (JTM).

Minister Steven Sim Chee Keong said the pilot project, in collaboration with Huawei Technologies Malaysia, will run for six months in selected JTM Advanced Technology Training Centres (Adtec).

“This is part of a collaboration between the ministry and Huawei Technologies following my visit with the Prime Minister to China in November last year.

“We signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Huawei for several key projects, including this one,” he said at a press conference at the Senai JTM Adtec campus.

He said the Senai campus will serve as the project base, while the other campuses involved are Pasir Gudang (also in Johor), Pedas (Negri Sembilan), Selandar (Melaka), Perai (Penang), and Jerantut (Pahang).

“In this first phase, we will provide training to our instructors. Over the past two days, about 40 instructors under JTM have completed the course.

“This will help them understand how to use the system and carry out the six-month proof of concept effectively and once it ends we will evaluate its suitability and affordability,” he said.

Sim said the concept integrates three main components: digitalisation, artificial intelligence (AI), and inter-campus connectivity.

“The digitalisation component involves smart learning tools in class, such as smart boards.

“Meanwhile, AI enhances teaching efficiency by analysing students’ attention levels and performing smart translations,” he said.

Sim added that connectivity allows students across the six campuses to join live-streamed classes.

“Moving forward, we can organise classes at the Senai campus, and students in Perai or Jerantut can follow the same course live.

"This will also allow them to enjoy the benefits of digitalisation, AI, and connectivity,” he said.
