SIBU: The state government, through the Sarawak Chinese School Consultative Committee, is allocating RM5mil to upgrade four Chinese-aided primary schools across the state with smart classroom facilities.
At a handover ceremony for smart classrooms to the four schools here on Wednesday (December 10), Deputy Public Health, Housing and Local Government Minister Datuk Michael Tiang said the funding — previously channelled through a special unit for Chinese school affairs — would lead to an expansion of digital learning infrastructure.
He said the initiative aimed to equip classrooms with electronic teaching materials, particularly for Mathematics and Science.
“As far as I know, 396 classrooms across Sarawak have been upgraded through this funding,” he said.
The four schools are SJK (C) Kiew Nang, Dung Sang, Su Lai and Kiang Him.
Tiang emphasised that the initiative reflected the State Government’s commitment to equal treatment for all Sarawakians, with the upgrades channelled specifically to Chinese-aided primary schools this time.
.“In Sarawak, regardless of whether you are in a national primary school or a Chinese-aided primary school, we are all Sarawakians. Everyone is equal,” he said.
“You can see how the Sarawak government treats everyone equally, and this RM5mil allocation is a clear testament to that.”
Tiang explained that the smart classroom programme was designed to nurture greater interest in science and technology among Chinese school pupils by providing a more interactive and engaging learning environment.
“These smart classrooms are internet-connected, interactive and equipped with the latest electronic materials. They will help our children learn more engagingly and make our next generation even more globally competitive,” he said.
Tiang described the project as an important step in modernising education and introducing “a next-level teaching facility” for young learners.
