KUCHING: The General Operations Force (GOF) Sarawak Brigade seized over 342,000 litres of subsidised diesel worth about RM1.8mil from March 16 until Tuesday (May 26), says Senior Asst Comm Lim Bak Phai.
The Sarawak GOF brigage commander said the seizures were made under Ops Tiris at several locations in the state.
He added that various assets and equipment worth almost RM17.5mil were also seized.
These included tanker lorries, heavy machinery and skid tanks.
Lim said the brigade recorded 58 cases with 69 arrests during the operation.
"One of its major successes was the seizure of a tugboat in Bintulu used to store 20,000 litres of diesel without a valid permit," he said in a statement Wednesday (May 27).
The operation also recorded seizures of over five tonnes of subsidised cooking oil worth almost RM40,000.
Additionally, over seven tonnes of coarse sugar worth more than RM31,000 were seized.
The overall seizure value for these controlled items was RM950,000.
Lim said the operation tracked various methods used by syndicates, including the storage, transfer and distribution of diesel without permits.
This is believed to involve a network involved in the misappropriation of controlled items in the state.
All suspects and seized items have been handed over to the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry for further action.
Investigations are being conducted under Section 21 of the Control of Supplies Act 1961.
