MELAKA: A social activist has honoured members of the Armed Forces by presenting a prized French-breed Charolais cow for sacrificial rites at the Terendak Camp here.
Mohd Radzmin Roslan spent RM7,000 from his personal savings to purchase the cow from a local farmer.
The 36-year-old arranged for the animal to be transported to Masjid As-Syuhada at the army camp in Sungai Udang.
“I wanted to contribute to the Armed Forces in appreciation of their sacrifices and service to the country,” he said on Wednesday (May 27).
Mohd Radzmin chose the Charolais breed because it is known for producing quality lean meat.
He said several family members also contributed financially towards the purchase as part of their Aidiladha contribution to the soldiers.
“This is the first time I am presenting a cow to the Armed Forces for the Aidiladha sacrifice.
“I hope to save enough to purchase more cattle and extend similar contributions to other uniformed bodies next year,” he added.
Mohd Radzmin also presented 340 bags of rice and packets of sugar to military personnel during a symbolic "korban" (sacrificial) programme.
The event was witnessed by Melaka housing, local government, climate change and disaster management committee chairman Datuk Rais Yasin.
Rais said Melaka is bracing for a major influx of visitors during the festive period and school holidays.
An estimated 300,000 vehicles are expected to enter the state during this time.
He said early preparations have been made to ensure the safety, cleanliness and comfort of tourists remain at the highest level.
All four local authorities in the state have been instructed to heighten their preparedness, particularly at tourist hotspots.
“We have requested all stakeholders to be fully prepared and work closely with relevant agencies,” Rais said.
Locations expected to attract large crowds include Bandar Hilir, Ayer Keroh and Pantai Tanjung Bidara.
Tasik Cincin, one of the state’s newer tourism products, is also expected to draw visitors.
