Malaysia appreciates Pakistan's role in Iran-US mediation, says Anwar

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia appreciates Pakistan's role in the ongoing mediation efforts between Iran and the United States.

This includes Pakistan's willingness to host the next round of negotiations.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim discussed the matter during a telephone conversation with his Pakistani counterpart Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday (May 27).

The two leaders also touched on various regional developments and efforts to strengthen Malaysia-Pakistan bilateral relations.

Anwar conveyed Selamat Hari Raya Aidiladha greetings to Shehbaz and the people of Pakistan.

He expressed hope that the spirit of sacrifice and brotherhood would continue to strengthen the peace and prosperity of the ummah.

Anwar and Shehbaz also discussed positive developments in negotiations between Iran and the United States.

This included discussions related to the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.

Anwar noted that the strait is vital for regional trade stability and security.

"Malaysia remains steadfast in its view that all disputes must be resolved through dialogue, diplomacy and peaceful approaches," Anwar said in a Facebook post.

He added that such measures are essential to ensure the stability of the West Asian region.

The two leaders also discussed the importance of the international community taking firm measures to stop Israel's violence against civilians in Gaza and Lebanon.

Anwar said relations between Malaysia and Pakistan will continue to be strengthened based on mutual respect and a shared commitment to global peace. - Bernama
