PETALING JAYA: PKR has urged acting Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh to explain the status of 55 state development projects that had yet to begin, saying voters deserve to see results before being asked to renew Barisan Nasional's mandate.
PKR deputy secretary-general Sivamalar Genapathy said the state government must disclose how many projects had since started, been completed or remained delayed.
"After almost 17 months, the people deserve an updated picture of the actual progress of these projects.
"Have all 55 projects now started? How many have been completed? How many remain delayed?" she said in a statement today (Oct 2).
Sivamalar said Ab Rauf had disclosed on June 10 last year that only 86 of 241 state development projects had been completed, while 100 were being implemented and 55 had yet to start.
She said delays could affect residents waiting for public facilities and infrastructure.
"The people do not live by figures in reports alone. They want to see tangible development that they can actually benefit from," she said.
Acknowledging that projects could face procurement, technical approval, land and contractor issues, as well as delays in fund disbursement, Sivamalar said these constraints should not become prolonged excuses without clear explanations and remedial action.
