KUALA LUMPUR: Investigation papers into the death of a detainee at the Cheras district police headquarters will be referred to the Attorney General's Chambers (AGC) on Wednesday (Nov 4) for further action.
Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department director Comm Datuk M Kumar said the case was being investigated under Section 331 of the Penal Code.
"The investigation papers will be submitted together with our recommendations for consideration, after which we will await further instructions and action from the AGC," he told a press conference at Bukit Aman on Monday (Nov 2).
Earlier, it was reported that the late Noorizwan Zulkefly, 42, was detained at the Cheras district police headquarters in connection with cases being investigated under Section 39A(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, Section 457 of the Penal Code and Section 379 of the Penal Code.
On Sept 30, he was referred to Hospital Canselor Tuanku Muhriz (HCTM) in Cheras for treatment before being pronounced dead at 1.52am on Oct 1.
In a related development, Comm Kumar said medical examinations and findings by a forensic pathologist confirmed that the deceased had sustained significant physical injuries.
"The physical injuries were not self-inflicted, but the cause of death is still under investigation by the hospital," he said.
Comm Kumar also confirmed that police had received a report from a forensic specialist.
"The case is being investigated under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation, Section 186 for obstructing a public servant from discharging his duties, and Section 189 of the same Code," he said.
He said statements had so far been recorded from the doctor and three lawyers to assist in the investigation.
Comm Kumar added that investigations into the doctor's report were ongoing, with further developments to be announced later.
"We are still in the process of recording statements from several individuals, including the victim's family members," he said.
