Anwar reiterates Malaysia’s condemnation of US-Israel aggression against Iran

PETALING JAYA: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has expressed hope that peace will return to Iran amid escalating regional tensions, while reiterating Malaysia’s condemnation of military aggression and attacks involving Israel and the United States.

In a social media post, Anwar said he had a telephone conversation with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian to convey Eid Mubarak greetings as well as prayers and solidarity from Malaysians to the people of Iran.

“I expressed hope that Iran will soon return to peace and that all tensions and bloodshed can be stopped through peaceful means, wisdom and responsible diplomacy,” he said.

Anwar said Malaysia remained firm in condemning all forms of attacks and aggression, including drone strikes and military actions involving Israel and the United States, which he said only continued to claim innocent lives.

He also expressed appreciation to the Iranian government for its cooperation in assisting with the release of a Malaysian ship in the Strait of Hormuz recently.

“Mutual respect and friendship like this must continue to be strengthened in relations between nations,” he said.

According to Anwar, Pezeshkian also conveyed appreciation for Malaysia’s consistent stance in upholding peace, justice and humanitarian principles on the international stage.

The Iranian president also invited Anwar to visit Tehran to strengthen bilateral ties and strategic cooperation between the two countries.

“I will arrange a visit to Iran at an appropriate time.

“Iran has always remained close to my heart, especially as I have many friends and acquaintances there who continue to uphold the values of knowledge, brotherhood and universal humanitarian struggle,” the Prime Minister said.
