JOHOR BARU: Hospital Pasir Gudang (HPG) will officially open its doors to the public on Aug 1, says Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad.
The Health Minister said the RM500mil public hospital will open in phases, with the first phase making up 30% of the facility’s overall capacity.
“HPG is the eighth major public hospital in Johor, offering 304 beds and 14 specialist disciplines in total, including general surgery, pediatrics, obstetrics and gynaecology as well as staff quarters.
“We are aiming for the hospital to be fully operational by July next year,” he said after witnessing the handover of the project from the Public Works Department (JKR) to the Health Ministry at HPG, located in Bandar Seri Alam, Pasir Gudang on Sunday (June 29).
He noted that HPG is also equipped with 20 units of on-call suites for doctors - a first in the country’s public healthcare facility - in a bid to boost their welfare and morale.
“HPG, which was completed on time with state-of-the-art facilities, is the Health Ministry’s trophy asset and should be made a benchmark for its future healthcare projects.
“At full capacity, the hospital is expected to help decongest and reduce the bed occupancy rate at Hospital Sultanah Aminah (HSA) and Hospital Sultan Ismail in Johor Baru by at least 10%.
“We also aim to reduce the waiting time for elective surgery at HSA by about 30% in the first two years,” he added.
The project, which kicked off in 2020, was completed on June 12 this year.
