THE Hospital Sultanah Aminah (HSA) Emergency Department has relocated temporarily to a building previously used as the hospital’s maternity ward.
The relocation on Aug 3 was to make way for upgrading works, said Johor health and environment committee chairman Ling Tian Soon.
“The new space is smaller but the necessary renovations have been done by the hospital to accommodate emergencies.
“The state government will also assist by providing canopy tents outside to make it more comfortable for patients seeking emergency treatment throughout the temporary arrangement,” he told StarMetro.
Ling said the emergency department would operate as usual and advised patients with non-emergency cases to seek treatment at nearby public health clinics.
“Alternatively, patients requiring urgent care can seek help at Hospital Sultan Ismail or Hospital Pasir Gudang to reduce patient load while the upgrades take place,” he said.
“The project is expected to take up to six months to complete.
“We seek the public’s cooperation and patience during this period.”
Ling said this during a site visit to HSA with Mentri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi, adding that the state government had so far allocated over RM60mil to upgrade public healthcare facilities across Johor.
“HSA in Johor Baru is one of the primary facilities receiving the largest share of this allocation.”
He added that a large portion of the main building had been upgraded, with work on the main entrance expected to be completed by the end of this month.
This would be followed by renovations at the emergency department, he added.
“We hope all the renovations will be completed within the planned timeline,” said Ling.
