YONG PENG: Putrajaya should expedite two major projects in Johor, namely the Elevated Autonomous Rapid Transit (E-ART) and Hospital Sultanah Aminah 2 (HSA 2), for the well-being of the people.
Johor MCA said the E-ART system could ease traffic congestion in the Johor Baru city centre while the HSA 2 project would improve the standard and efficiency of healthcare services in the state.
The call was made through a 14-point resolution that was passed during their annual convention on Wednesday (Sept 16).
They also called for more efforts to combat illegal moneylending activities to prevent the frequent occurrence of criminal incidents such as threats, arson and harassment.
They said the government should take stricter action against those involved in scams to combat the increasingly rampant cases.
Besides that, the delegates called on the government to reinstate the Goods and Services Tax and to abolish the policy requiring foreign workers and employers to contribute 2% to the Employees Provident Fund to ease the burden on employers.
On education, they urged the Education Ministry to remove the stringent conditions imposed on the establishment of SJKC Kuek Ho Yao, including the requirement for the school construction committee to raise funds and build the school itself.
They also said the ministry should expedite construction of the remaining three new Chinese primary schools, namely SJKC Sim Mow Yu, SJKC Tun HS Lee and SJKC Tan Kah Kee for the benefit of Johor students.
