KUALA LUMPUR: The police have stepped up patrols near the embassies of the United States and Iran following the ongoing conflict between the two countries.
Wangsa Maju OCPD Asst Comm Mohamad Lazim Ismail said police have increased their presence near the embassies since the conflict between the two countries started.
“We are focused on increasing our presence near both locations to deter any untoward incidents from happening. So far, the situation is under control,” he said when contacted yesterday.
“Our action going forward will depend on the development of the conflict between the two countries,” he added.
He advised the public not to resort to any rash action that is against the law.
“The public should refrain from taking any action that might jeopardise the safety of others. Stern action will be taken against any lawbreakers,” ACP Mohamad Lazim said.
It was previously reported that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Malaysian political leaders stood together in their condemnation of the military strikes by the United States on Iran, describing the attacks as a violation of international law and a threat to global stability.
The leaders are calling for immediate international action, including interventions by the United Nations and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).
During a function in Kuching on Sunday, Anwar urged the international community to apply pressure on Israel to stop its aggressive actions.
He said lasting peace could only be achieved if Israel ceases its violent conduct towards other countries.
PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang urged the UN Security Council and the OIC to take firm action to stop what he called an uncivilised act of aggression.
He warned that failure to act could further destabilise the Middle East and endanger prospects for global peace.
US President Donald Trump said early Sunday that his forces bombed three Iranian nuclear sites in Fordo, Natanz and Isfahan.
The attacks marked the latest escalation in a US-backed Israeli military assault against Iran that began on June 13, which in turn prompted Teheran to initiate retaliatory strikes against Israel.
