KULAI: Police had to shoot at the tyres of a car after the driver tried to ram into them here early Saturday morning (Sept 12).
Kulai OCPD Asst Comm Tan Seng Lee said the incident occurred at about 1.20am when a motorcycle unit was on patrol on Jalan Kenari in Bandar Putra.
He added they stopped a suspicious-looking black car and found a 23-year-old man and his 23-year-old girlfriend inside.
"One of the suspects became aggressive and tried to escape by ramming the police motorcycle and a car.
"They also attempted to ram the policemen," he said here on Sunday (Sept 13).
ACP Tan said police fired a shot at the vehicle's tyres in self-defence.
"However, the suspects managed to escape," he said adding that one of the policemen suffered minor injuries to his leg.
Police arrested the couple in Bandar Putra and Kluang at 11.30am and 8.30pm the same day.
He said police seized the car used during the incident, adding that both suspects tested negative for drugs and did not have criminal records.
He said both suspects would be brought to the Johor Baru Magistrate's Court on Sunday to be remanded.
ACP Tan said the case was being investigated under Section 307 of the Penal Code for attempted murder, Section 332 for voluntarily causing hurt to a public servant and Section 186 for obstructing a public servant in the discharge of his duties.
