KUCHING: Tears flowed at staff nurse Debra Moset’s funeral as her niece Lizfornia Derik delivered a moving eulogy.

“A few days ago, we were still waiting for her to come back.

“This is not the homecoming we hoped for,” she said during the service at St Patrick’s Chapel in Kampung Semadang near here on Monday (Sept 14).

Lizfornia said Debra was a dedicated nurse, loving mother and kind aunt who led by example.

“As a nurse with the Flying Doctor Service, her courage brought her to remote places, no matter how far away or difficult they were to reach.

“Though my heart is shattered, I’m very proud of her.

“She left us in service and returned as a hero. We will remember her in our hearts forever,” she said.

Debra, 40, was one of five people killed in a helicopter crash in Long Lellang last Tuesday.

The others were pilot Capt Zainol Afiq Bee Sham, 30, Dr Ainul Baraah Kamaruddin, 33, assistant medical officer Alexson Adit Henry, 31, and staff nurse Jessie Paya Jok, 44.

The helicopter was on a Flying Doctor Service mission when it crashed.

Family members, friends and colleagues were present to bid farewell to Debra and pay their respects to her husband John Then Hua Ken, children Euodia and Eugene Then, and mother Renog Rasas.

After the service, her remains were taken to the cemetery across the road for burial at noon.
