Food delivery driver critically injured in bus collision after running red light

JOHOR BARU: A 20-year-old food delivery rider was critically injured after he ran the red light and got hit by a factory bus in Pasir Gudang here.

Seri Alam OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Sohaimi Ishak said the accident occurred at the junction of Jalan Masai Kong Kong and Jalan Berlian 12 at around 6pm on Thursday (June 12).

“The bus was travelling straight towards Masai from Kong Kong when the traffic light turned green at the junction.

“Suddenly, the motorcyclist emerged from Jalan Berlian 12, despite the traffic light on his side still being red, and the 54-year-old bus driver could not brake in time,” he said in a statement.

“After the bus rammed into the food delivery rider, he was dragged under the bus for about 15m before it came to a complete stop,” said ACP Mohd Sohaimi.

He added that the motorcyclist, who was severely injured, was rushed to Hospital Sultan Ismail for emergency treatment.

“The victim is still unconscious and is being treated in the red zone of the hospital,” he said, adding that the bus driver was unhurt in the accident.

The case is being investigated under Section 43 (1) of the Road Transportation Act 1987.

ACP Mohd Sohaimi urged road users to obey traffic rules and regulations to avoid accidents from occurring.

He also called on witnesses to cooperate with the police by channelling information regarding the accident by calling the district hotline at 07-3864 222 or by heading to the nearest police station.
