PKR No. 2 role increasingly critical with party president handling national matters, says Nurul Izzah

SHAH ALAM: The role of the PKR deputy president will become more critical as party president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who is also Prime Minister, shoulders the responsibility of steering the nation through an era of uncertainty, says Nurul Izzah Anwar.

The newly elected PKR deputy president said steps would be taken to strengthen the party and ensure internal governance is on the right track, allowing Anwar to fully focus on the country's administration.

Among the initial steps, she said, is to introduce a programme to empower the grassroots.

"This will focus on increasing the number of supporters, effective public engagement strategies and the best ways to assist local communities.

"We will ensure every 'general' and party warrior – from branch to central – is equipped with sufficient strength, knowledge, resources and fighting spirit to face the upcoming political battlefield," she said in a Facebook post on Sunday (May 25).

Nurul Izzah defeated incumbent Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli on Friday (May 23) to become PKR deputy president.

In the post, she also expressed gratitude to her supporters and said this was not the time to celebrate or be complacent.

"Instead, it is time to double our efforts, go to the ground and 'return to the real battlefield'. Let us not waste what little time we have left.

"I step forward not with a sense of pride but of responsibility that every vote shows trust – and this trust demands real work.

I represent everyone – whether they voted for me or Rafizi – to fulfil this mandate," she added.
