A NINE-YEAR-OLD girl died after being beaten by her mother who tried to discipline her in Wenzhou, Zhejiang province, China.

Oriental Daily reported that the 44-year-old woman, known only as Zheng, was earlier summoned to her daughter’s school, where the teacher reported the girl’s behavioural issues and declining academic performance.

This made the mother upset and led to her beating her daughter badly at their home in Ouhai district on May 9.

The girl lost consciousness during the beating and later died from her injuries despite rescue efforts. Zheng reportedly broke down on the spot.

Police detained Zheng on Thursday, with investigations still ongoing.

Chinese media reported that the girl’s father was working abroad in pursuit of a better life, leaving Zheng to manage household affairs on her own.

Crew members had to subdue him before securing him with red tape to restore order.

Video footage showed the man lunging at the woman seated next to him, resulting in a physical altercation that quickly got out of control.
