Anwar to visit Russia on Putin’s invitation, says PMO


PETALING JAYA: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim will be heading to Moscow from Tuesday (May 13) to Friday (May 16) at the invitation of Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Speaking at the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) briefing on Monday (May 12), senior press secretary Tunku Nashrul Abaidah said that Anwar will be in from Tuesday to Thursday (May 15) and in Kazan, Tatarstan on Thursday and Friday (May 16).

He added that Anwar would attend the 16th International Economic Forum “KazanForum” at the invitation of Republic of Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov.

“The Prime Minister will deliver a keynote address at the KazanForum plenary session on May 16, deliver a speech at the Strategic Vision Group Meeting and hold a meeting with the President of Tatarstan,” said Tunku Nashrul.

“While in Moscow, the Prime Minister will deliver a speech at the Moscow State Institute of International Relations University (MGIMO), hold a meeting with Russian businessmen, and hold a meeting with the Malaysian diaspora in Moscow,” he added.

After his official visit to Russia, Anwar is set to attend the Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition (LIMA 2025) themed ‘Innovate Today, Thrive Tomorrow’.

“The Prime Minister stressed that LIMA 2025 is not just an asset and technology exhibition, but a strategic arena to build collaboration between governments, industries and educational institutions,” said Tunku Nashrul.

He added that Anwar said this could be done by bringing together key players in the defence and commercial aviation sectors including in the fields of MRO, IoT, satellites and space technology.

He then said that in conjunction with Wesak Day, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim reminded Malaysians to spread goodness and reject extremism.

“Malaysia is blessed with various festivals and cultures, and this Wesak Day reminds us all to spread the light of goodness, reject all forms of extremism.

Build a society that respects each other including spreading the light of love, hope, and compassion throughout the world for the sake of peace, justice, and prosperity of everyone in the country,” said Tunku Nashrul.
