KOTA KINABALU: Four men in their 20s were killed after the vehicle they were travelling in crashed into a parked trailer along Jalan Sepanggar in the wee hours of the morning, just outside the city centre.
The 23-year-old car driver is believed to have lost control of his vehicle and skidded off his lane directly into the parked trailer, crashing into it near Taman Jaya Diri at around 2.30am yesterday.
Sabah Fire and Rescue Department acting station chief for Kota Kinabalu, Mohd Hannis Moktar, said the driver and three others in the car were pinned inside the wrecked vehicle.
“Rescuers had to extricate all victims, and medical officials pronounced them dead at the scene,” he said in a statement.
He said the bodies of the victims were later handed over to police for further action while operations on site concluded at 3.55am.
Kota Kinabalu acting OCPD Supt Syed Lot Syed Ab Rahman said the accident also affected several other vehicles parked in front of the trailer.
“A total of five vehicles were damaged because when the victim’s car hit the trailer, the truck moved forward and rammed into several parked cars,” he said.
He urged witnesses or those with information related to the incident to contact investigating officer Insp Royston at 016-313 0153 or go to the nearest police station.
