KUANTAN: An elderly man died in a house fire in Kampung Kuala Dong, here, on Sunday (Sept 27), the Pahang Fire and Rescue Department said.
Its Pahang director, Datuk Mohd Razam Taja Rahim, said the victim was believed to have died from burns caused by the intense heat during the fire, which was reported at about 9.56pm.
"The victim was found in the living room of the semi-permanent house, which was about 80% destroyed by the blaze.
"An elderly woman who was also in the house managed to escape unharmed," he said in a statement on Monday (Sept 28).
Mohd Razam added that firefighters brought the blaze under control before the operation ended at 2.13am.
Meanwhile, Pahang Communications and Multimedia, Youth, Sports and Non-Governmental Organisations Committee chairman Datuk Fadzli Mohamad Kamal, in a Facebook post, conveyed his condolences to the victim's family following the incident.
"I was saddened to learn that an elderly man, Abd Hamid Jaafar, 80, had passed away and was found inside the burnt house. May Allah SWT shower His mercy upon his soul and grant his family patience and strength to face this difficult trial," he said. – Bernama
