Thunderstorms to hit Sarawak, Sabah and Labuan until 9am


PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a warning of thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds across Sarawak, Sabah and the Federal Territory of Labuan, effective until 9am on Monday (Sept 28).

In Sarawak, the early morning weather alert covers Limbang, as well as Miri and Marudi in the Miri division.

In Sabah, severe weather is forecast for Pedalaman (Beaufort, Sipitang, Tenom, Kuala Penyu, Membakut, Keningau, Sook and Tambunan), Pantai Barat (Kota Kinabalu, Penampang, Papar, Putatan, Tuaran and Kota Belud), and Sandakan (Sandakan, Labuk & Sugut and Kinabatangan).

The alert also covers the entirety of WP Labuan.

MetMalaysia issues these warnings when there are signs indicating a thunderstorm with a rainfall intensity exceeding 20mm per hour that is imminent or expected to occur for more than one hour.

A thunderstorm warning is a short-term warning that is valid for a period not exceeding six hours for any single release.

The notice was officially issued by the department at 6am on Monday.
