Negri govt must function as normal despite ongoing crisis, says state Umno chief

KUALA LUMPUR: The running of the state government in Negri Sembilan must be prioritised so that the welfare of the people is protected, says Negri Sembilan Umno chief Datuk Seri Jalaluddin Alias.

Jalaluddin confirmed that a meeting was held at the Umno headquarters on Saturday (Sept 26) to discuss the current crisis in the state.

"Yes, a meeting was held regarding what is currently happening in Negri Sembilan," he said when met.

"The core content of the meeting was that the Negri Sembilan government must function as per normal for the good of the people."

"That is what must be prioritised," he added.

"God willing, following this long discussion, an approach can be used so that the government runs as per normal."

When asked how the state government can function with the status of the state executive council members in question, he said formulas were in place to ensure administration continues smoothly.

"There are several methods we can use," he said.

"And I believe the Mentri Besar has his own formula to mobilise the government machinery so that programmes aimed to benefit the people can go on."

He also confirmed that those in attendance included the state executive council members and the chairs of backbenchers from Barisan Nasional and Perikatan Nasional.

"So PAS and Wawasan representatives were also in attendance," he said.

On Sept 25, photographs of the 10 Negri Sembilan exco members were removed from the official state government portal.

On Sept 20, Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Negri Sembilan Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir revoked the appointments of the 10 members with immediate effect after they were found to have violated their oath of office.
