PETALING JAYA: A RM42mil payment linked to a 50MW solar project in Gambang, Pahang, is among several issues being investigated by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) over losses incurred by UiTM Holdings Sdn Bhd in 2023.
MACC said the payment was allegedly made for purposes unrelated to the project and without the approval of the company’s board of directors.
The anti-graft agency said in a statement that the investigation was still ongoing due to the complexity of the case, which involved technical aspects, and was pending further instructions from the prosecution.
It said other relevant issues, including governance weaknesses highlighted by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, would also be investigated.
“MACC welcomes the Prime Minister’s concern and firmness in addressing and resolving weaknesses that contributed to the losses suffered by UiTM Holdings Sdn Bhd,” it said.
Previously, Anwar ordered a review of the governance and management of UiTM Holdings amid concerns over the company’s losses.
He said the review should be carried out with the UiTM vice-chancellor, with the Prime Minister’s Department providing support where necessary.
“Please look into UiTM Holdings and find ways to work together with the vice-chancellor.
“The Prime Minister’s Department and my office will provide cooperation and push for this,” he said in response to a question urging a review of UiTM Holdings’ management following claims that the company had recorded losses of more than RM100mil.
The issue was raised during a question-and-answer session at the Himpunan Mesra Alumni UiTM at Dewan Agung Tuanku Canselor in Shah Alam on Saturday.
MACC chief commissioner Datuk Seri Abd Halim Aman, when contacted, confirmed that the investigation was being conducted under Section 23 of the MACC Act 2009.
He said MACC would strive to complete the investigation as soon as possible in an independent and fair manner.
