KUALA LUMPUR: Steps are being taken to ensure the Negri Sembilan administration continues to function smoothly, despite the appointments of the 10 state executive council members being revoked, says Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
“Since the Mentri Besar is currently the only person officially serving in the state government, the situation in Negri Sembilan must be dealt with in accordance with the state constitution, customs and existing regulations,” the Deputy Prime Minister said.
“The purpose is to coordinate efforts, without looking to interfere, but to find the best solution to the crisis currently facing Negri Sembilan.”
He said this after attending the 18th annual general assembly of the Malaysian Makkal Sakti Party.
Ahmad Zahid said he had given Mentri Besar Datuk Ismail Lasim the mandate to seek the best solution, which includes holding an audience with the Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Negri Sembilan and meeting the Undang (ruling chiefs) and other customary leaders in the state.
He said engagement with the state’s traditional institutions was important in finding an amicable way forward while respecting the state constitution and customs.
“We want the issue to be resolved amicably,” said Ahmad Zahid.
“What is important is that the people must be given priority and their problems must be addressed.
“Whatever is happening, and whatever has happened, we must find a good solution for the state.
“Certainly, we do not want the situation to worsen and the people to suffer as a result.”
On Sept 20, the Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Negri Sembilan, Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir, revoked the appointments of the state exco members.
The cancellation of their appointment was gazetted on Sept 24.
Photographs of the 10 exco members have since been removed from the official government portal, with only the Mentri Besar’s photograph remaining under the state executive council section.
