BALING: A 12-year-old boy is missing after swimming in a river near Felda Teloi Kanan on Sunday (May 11) afternoon, Sinar Hairan reports.

Baling Fire and Rescue station chief, Asst Fire Supt Zulkhairi Mat Tanjil told the Malay language daily that they received an emergency call regarding the incident at 4:16pm.

According to initial information, the victim was believed to be swimming in the river with several friends before suddenly disappearing.

"The victim, Muhammad Aqil Fitri Hishamudin, was believed to be swimming with several friends before he was reported to have gone under and disappeared," he said.

He said that a team from the Baling Fire and Rescue Station rushed to the scene upon receiving the call.

However, he noted that the search operation was suspended at 6:30pm Sunday and would resume on Monday (May 12).

"The search will continue tomorrow with assistance from the Water Rescue Team from the Sungai Petani and Jitra Fire and Rescue stations, as well as the police and Fire and Rescue Department's K-9 Detection Dog Unit," he said.
