MBJB councillor lodges police report after pickup truck seen running over dog in viral video

JOHOR BARU: A video of a pickup truck killing a dog by running over it has been making rounds on social media.

Johor Baru City Council (MBJB) local councillor Teow Chia Ling said she has lodged a police report about the incident on Wednesday (May 20).

“I have been receiving a lot of messages from residents and concerned citizens regarding the shocking incident.

“After viewing the video clip, I believe the vehicle had deliberately rammed into the dog in a housing area in Taman Puteri Wangsa.

“This is not a simple accident but a cruel act,” she said in a Facebook post on Wednesday.

Teow added that she also received instruction from Johor health and environment committee chairman Ling Tian Soon on Tuesday (May 19) night and subsequently lodged a police report at the Larkin police station the following morning.

“We hope a thorough investigation will be conducted under the Animal Welfare Act 2015 as animal lives matter and should be protected.

“Any form of abuse and cruelty against animals is intolerable,” she said.

In the viral video, a red pickup truck, believed to belong to a local council subcontractor, could be seen zooming past a row of houses before running over the dog in the middle of the road.

The injured animal was seen struggling after the impact before collapsing on the road.

Meanwhile, an MBJB official said they had received a complaint about the incident and will respond accordingly soon.
