Over 400,000 commercial vehicles booked by JPJ since 2024

GOMBAK: Over 400,000 commercial vehicles have faced Road Transport Department (JPJ) action for various infractions over the last two years.

JPJ senior enforcement director Datuk Muhammad Kifli Ma Hassan said a total of 415,846 vehicles were subjected to action for various offences under enforcement protocols between 2024 and April this year.

Statistics also showed that a total of 45,986 notices were issued in 2024, increasing to 57,174 last year, he added.

"Meanwhile, from January to April this year, a total of 14,885 notices were issued for P22 summonses," he told a press conference at the enforcement station here on Wednesday (May 20).

"Apart from summonses, we also carried out the seizure of 753 vehicles, namely lorries that violated permit conditions and legal provisions under the Land Public Transport Act 2010.

"Among the states recording the highest number of seizures were Penang with 133, followed by Selangor with 125 and Pahang with 101," he added,

In the period since 2024 to last month, the JPJ also carried out forfeiture proceedings on 30 lorries for carrying excessive loads.

"I would like to emphasise to all lorry operators that any vehicle carrying a load exceeding 50% above the permitted gross vehicle weight will be seized by JPJ, and we will seek a court order for forfeiture.

"We view offences involving overloading very seriously," he said.
