Student dies in collision with ambulance in Jasin


JASIN: An 18-year-old community college student died after his motorcycle collided with an ambulance at the Ayer Merbau traffic light junction here.

Jasin OCPD Supt Lee Robert identified the victim as Muhammad Amirul Asyraaf Md Azizan, a student at Bukit Beruang Community College here.

Amirul succumbed to severe injuries while receiving treatment at Jasin Hospital at about 10.30am on Wednesday (Aug 26).

Supt Lee said police were alerted to the accident involving a motorcycle and an ambulance at about 9.35am.

"The victim was travelling from Jasin towards Bemban, while the ambulance was heading from Ayer Merbau to Jasin Hospital.

"Preliminary investigations found that the collision was believed to have occurred after the ambulance driver emerged from the junction while the traffic light was red," he said.

Supt Lee said police had also obtained dashboard-camera footage from a vehicle travelling behind the ambulance to assist in the investigation.

He said the deceased was the son of a civil servant attached to the Jasin district Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division.

Supt Lee added that the ambulance driver, Mohd Noorikhmal Baharuddin, 41, suffered a broken arm in the collision while two medical assistants were also injured in the accident.
