MACC to summon more individuals in expedited citizenship case

PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) may summon more people to assist with the ongoing corruption case linked to the expedited processing of citizenship confirmation applications.

According to Sinar Harian, this was following the arrest of two Home Ministry officers and a civilian in Putrajaya on Wednesday (May 7).

"MACC does not rule out the possibility that more parties will be called to assist in the investigation," said the MACC strategic communications division in a statement on Saturday (May 10).

According to sources, the three arrested included a Datuk and two women aged 50 to 65.

"They have been released on bail after their statements were taken and may be recalled if needed to assist in the investigation.

The operation is a continuation of Ops Outlander, which was recently carried out by the MACC.

Under the operation on March 16, MACC froze 11 bank accounts involving a total of RM100,000 in connection with an investigation into corruption cases involving the late registration of births from non-citizens to citizens, as well as using false supporting documents in the birth registration process.

MACC also detected the involvement of several doctors in illegally preparing birth registration documents.
