Firemen rescue boy, free leg trapped in drain grille

JASIN: An 11-year-old boy endured a painful ordeal when his right leg became trapped in a drain grille at SK Jasin.

Senior Fire Officer Azizul Ali from the Jasin Fire and Rescue Department said an emergency call was received at 11.19am on Thursday (May 8).

He said a rescue team was dispatched immediately and arrived on site within two minutes.

"We discovered the boy’s right leg firmly wedged between the metal bars of a drain located within the school grounds.

"Firefighters utilised specialised rescue equipment to safely free the victim’s leg, with no serious injuries reported," he said.

Azizul, who led the operation, said the rescue mission was fully under control by 12.02pm once the Primary Five pupil was deemed safe.

He said the operation involved six personnel, while the pupil remained visibly shaken by the incident.
