Man held over alleged assault of pregnant wife in Jasin


MELAKA: Police have arrested a man for allegedly assaulting his pregnant wife at a house in Taman Seri Kemendor, Jasin, Thursday (March 19).

Melaka Tengah OCPD Asst Comm Christopher Patit said the 22-year-old suspect was detained by officers from the D8 and D11 units of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) at the Melaka police headquarters at about 11am.

"Those with information on the incident can contact the Melaka Tengah police headquarters or any nearby police station to assist in investigations.

"The public is also advised not to speculate on the case, as it could interfere with the investigation," he said in a statement Thursday.

He said the case is being investigated under Section 323 of the Penal Code and Section 18A of the Domestic Violence Act 1994.

On Tuesday (March 17), it was reported that police were hunting for a man believed to have assaulted his pregnant wife in an incident at a karaoke centre in Kota Shahbandar here on Sunday (March 15). - Bernama
