Economy Minister should be at his post during global trade uncertainty, says Bersatu Youth

PETALING JAYA: Economy Minister Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli should not be on leave at a time of trade and economic uncertainty caused by the US tariffs, says Bersatu Youth.

Its information chief Harris Idaham Rashid said the minister should be focusing his efforts and commitment on making sure the economy is resilient enough to cope with a possible downturn.

"Without the presence of the Economy Minister during a critical month, policy decisions by the government (may be affected)," he said in a statement on Friday (May 2).

Rafizi’s leave came just when many of those aligned to him lost in the recent PKR division polls.

Harris said party politics should not mix with matters of government or the people would lose out.

"Bersatu urges the Prime Minister to cancel Rafizi's leave as the country needs all Cabinet ministers, especially those related to the economy, to serve and find solutions to issues," he added.

Earlier, a portal had quoted a minister as saying that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim had informed the Cabinet on Wednesday (April 30) that Rafizi had taken several days off.
