KUALA PILAH: Political parties contesting the Negri Sembilan polls on Aug 1 should not dwell on issues related to the state royal institution when campaigning, says Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim (pic).
The Prime Minister said the state royal institution should not be dragged into public discourse or turned into political polemic.
"Do not violate this as we have laws (to act against those who did)," he said in his speech when unveiling Pakatan Harapan's candidates for the state polls on Tuesday (July 14).
Anwar said the royal institution, which is one of the pillars of the constitution, was not to be trifled with and should always be treated with dignity.
On another issue, Anwar said the Madani government had carried out many programmes for the benefit of the people although these were not part of its election pledges.
These he said these include the billions of ringgit in cash and cost-of-living welfare subsidies, increasing salaries for civil servants which were not revised for 12 years, helping ease Felda's debts and assisting second-generation settlers, allocations for Armed Forces personnel and special allocations for schools.
He said despite the many achievements, Pakatan's rivals would always try to discredit the Madani government.
